TRINKET adopted by Pam Fisher and Lauren Mueller on
July 4th, 2004

written by her mom… Pam

Trinket arrived at Rescue in November of 2003 at nine months of age after a puppy-hood dotted with abuse. What exactly had happened to this adorable little girl is not clear. However, Trinket trusted no one and feared everything that was around her. Upon her arrival, Trinket could only shuffle her back legs when she walked. She would roll on her back, whimper and cry whenever she was approached, cowering at even the slightest eye contact.

Sandy Blount and Priscilla Wright of Southern California Rescue certainly had their hands full. Over time, a lot of patience and love, the leery Trinket finally let them put a harness on her to go for walks. Although this could only be accomplished with Trinket on her back it was a start. Over the months, Trinket slowly gained more confidence to allow a soft padded collar to be put on her, although she would still only walk while in her harness. It seemed that it was going to be very difficult finding a home for this traumatized little girl.

Trinket didn't have to wait too long for her new life to begin anew though. Although, forever on her back and still leery of everyone, Trinket had a magical charm about her and we absolutely adored her. As Rescue volunteers, Lauren and I spent many hours with this adorable girl. Washing her, taking her for walks and continuing to build her trust and gain her confidence in us. Our current canine family at the time included Gracie, another Afghan Hound rescue. A senior, deaf girl with the biggest heart of gold in the world and Sweet Pea our Whippet. We knew in our hearts that Trinket had to meet them both and during her trial visit with us in June 2004, “Trinket found love and decided to stay a lifetime.” We officially adopted her on the Forth of July complete with a party and celebration so well deserved!

Trinket is three years old now and still a work in progress but love and patience has paid off. She now resides with Lauren and I in Southern California along with her Whippet sister Sweet Pea. Soon after Trinket's adoption we lost our beloved Gracie to cancer. It was all too quick, but we hope we gave her the most loving year of her life. Her memory and spirit remains strong amongst those who met her and she carved a permanent paw print in both our hearts!

Trinket now sits proud for her collar and can't wait to go for her walks. She is Queen of the household, loved and adored beyond belief and goes with us everywhere . She especially loves the beach and takes great joy in showing herself off at numerous Doggie Fundraising Events throughout Southern California. Trinket has also been busy gaining local fame. I n 2004, she won first prize in a Halloween contest at a local veterinary hospital and in the spring was named Princess at The Long Beach Haute Dog Easter Parade , complete with a few seconds of fame on the local news. In June 2005, T he OC Dog Publication picked Trinket as most photogenic dog for their spring issue and she continued a winning streak that fall at two more Halloween contests. In the “My Dogs Face” photo contest for the Orange County Register in 2005, 100 finalists were chosen to be published in the paper from more than 2,800 entries. Trinket was among them.

In the fall of 2005 my Trinket twinkle toes passed her basic obedience class with flying colors. I couldn't have been a more proud Mom. What a change from the kicking and crying little scared girl I first saw. She was chosen Ms. April for the Afghan Hound Club of America Rescue Calendar for 2006 and then in June 2006, Trinket continued to amaze me and passed the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test. You can bet she will wear that CGC tag with pride! What is next? That's easy. Many, many more years of sharing and building a lifetime of love and memories together. Trinket is now a proud dog who holds her head high for all to see her irresistible freckles and a forever twinkle in her eye.

With love to my Trinket twinkle toes…... pammy
