There is a bridge connecting Earth and an After Life.

It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors.

Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills, and valleys with green grass.

When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place.
There is always food and water and warm spring weather.
The old and frail animals are young again.
Those who are maimed are made whole again.
They play all day with each other.

There is only one thing missing.

They are not with their special person
who loved them on Earth.

So, each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up. The nose twitches; the ears are up and alert; the eyes are staring, and this one suddently runs from the group.

You have been seen.....

And when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her in your arms and embrace.
Your face is kissed again and again and again, and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.

So long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, Never again to be separated.

I picked you up

In loving memory of my 15 ½ year old Afghan Hound, Bacchus

You came to me only eight weeks old

Who would have known a wonderful life would unfold

You raced about looking so tough

What a sensation as I picked you up

So large a breed but so small a pup

A bundle of love, just full of your own stuff

As you grew and the years passed us by

So many years, so many places

Countless trips meeting new faces

Best friends for life, yes we had it all

But I seemed to forget time just wouldn't stall

As you became older and could no longer get up

I gladly stood by to pick you up

You struggled to eat, it was getting so tough

If you began to fall I'd just pick you up

Your tired legs weakened, but you refused to give up

Always waiting nearby I'd just pick you up

A long life together, helping each other out

My best friend and “Buddy”, I had no doubt

As your life was ending I tried to find the strength

As I knew I would go to any length

I kissed and held you all through that last night

I don't even think you knew of my fright

You looked at me, eyes no longer so tough

And I knew one last time I would pick you up

An empty house, a heart full of pain

I wondered if anything would still be the same

I looked through the past, wonderful memories flooded back

All the times you were there, no questions ever asked

My “Buddy”, best friend, full of love and so tough

Thank you for still being there to always pick me up
