November 7, 2007 - Update on Northern California Rescue

Auburn 45 – Free at last!

Remaining Afghan Hounds in protective custody are released!

As many of you know, it's been a very long year for those of us
doing rescue in California. As of today, the remaining 12 dogs that
we have had in "protective custody" pending the disposition of Placer
County's case against the Robockers have been released. Breathe a big
sigh of relief, everyone!

Unfortunately, Irene's "punishment" does not fit the crime. She
pled "no contest" (in CA, this is tantamount to a guilty plea) to ONE
misdemeanor (rather than the 12 with which she was charged). She will
not receive any jail time. She is forbidden to have dogs for only
three years.

Whether or not we will receive any monetary reimbursement will be
decided by the judge on February 6 of 2008.

To all those who donated to this cause, please accept our heartfelt
thanks. We couldn't have done it without you. The Afghan Hound community
came to our aid in this time of need; your generosity has been beyond
my wildest dreams.

We will have our story in the upcoming Afghan Hound Review.
Thank you again from Astrid Pryor and the entire Auburn 45 team.

November 1, 2007 - Update on Northern California Rescue

This is the word from Carl Mayhew today:

Through her attorney, Irene Robocker entered a no-contest plea (same as guilty) on October 31 to one misdemeanor count of keeping an animal without proper care. She was placed on probation for three years. Among her probation conditions are that she not own, possess or maintain dogs of any age at any location, and that she fully and finally release ownership of the 11 remaining Afghan hounds now in foster care. The matter is set for a brief further hearing on 11/7/07 at 8:30 a.m. in Department 9 on Robert Robocker's case. That case will be dismissed in consideration of Irene Robocker's plea, provided that Robert Robocker also relinquishes, on the record, any remaining claim of ownership of the 11.

Further information will be available after the November 7 hearing. Thank you again for all your efforts on behalf of the dogs. Trial dates have been vacated.

I guess the bad news is that Irene won't be punished, and with only one misdemeanor she won't lose her horse racing privileges either. But...it looks like the dogs will be free at last!!!!!! And it's all thanks to people like you.

A Plea To help!
12 Adult Afghan Hounds are "Still" being held by
Placer County Animal Services!

Northern California Rescue in January 2007

Afghan Hound Rescue of Southern California, Inc.  has been in the middle of a massive rescue operation since January 8th, 2007.  45 Afghan Hounds were confiscated from a hoarder/breeder in Auburn, CA. by Placer County Animal Services. The adult dogs all showing varying signs of neglect.  Many were matted to the skin and covered with horse feces.   Conditions varied ranging from heartworm positive, eye infections, large tumors, malnourished, Giardia, whip worms, neglected teeth....to the extent where many of the dogs had to have large amounts pulled.   Together with the many volunteers and people who donated funds many are now in their new loving permanent homes.
